The Present Continuous Tense
The Present Continuous tense is used to describe actions that are happening right now or around the present time.
✨ 1. How to Form It
👉 Formula:
Subject + be (am/is/are) + verb + -ing
-
I → am + verb + -ing
-
He/She/It → is + verb + -ing
-
You/We/They → are + verb + -ing
✅ 2. Positive Statements
-
I am watching TV.
-
She is playing the guitar.
-
They are studying English.
❌ 3. Negative Statements
👉 Add not after am / is / are.
-
I am not watching TV.
-
He is not (isn’t) playing football.
-
We are not (aren’t) studying right now.
❓ 4. Questions
👉 Change the order: Be + subject + verb-ing?
-
Am I speaking clearly?
-
Is she reading a book?
-
Are they playing football?
🔑 Quick Tips
-
Use Present Continuous for:
-
Actions happening right now → I’m writing a message.
-
Actions happening around now → She is learning English this month.
-
Temporary actions → We are staying in a hotel.
-
-
Do NOT use it with verbs of feeling, liking, or knowing (e.g., love, like, know, understand). Use Present Simple instead.
